About Transfer Switches:
Transfer switches are used to protect critical electrical
loads against loss of power. The load’s normal power source is backed up by a
secondary (emergency) power source, usually a generator. You can choose an
automatic or manual transfer switch to match your specific needs.
A transfer switch is connected to both the normal and
emergency power sources and determines which source supplies the load with
power. In the event that power is lost from the normal power source, the
transfer switch can transfer the load quickly and easily to the emergency or
back-up power source.
Depending upon the type of transfer switch used, once
normal power is restored, the load is automatically or manually transferred
back to the normal power source.
